  The U.S. Office of Management and Budget made it clear in the OMB memorandum that government departments must take action to secure sensitive information with approved information technologies. All data on mobile devices must be encrypted and remote access be permitted only with single-factor or 2-factor authentication (Office of Management and Budget, 2006). The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat has also set standards on Management of Information Technology Security (MITS) that require all data on mobile devices be encrypted and that outline identification and strong authentication measures to be addressed for network access.

This certification validates that a product underwent stringent testing by an accredited independent lab, earning the FIPS 140-2 certification from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Canadian Communication Security Establishment (CSE).
